NWFCU Foundation Awards Car as Part of Fundraiser for Scholarships

HERNDON, Va.–The NWFCU Foundation, the charitable arm of Northwest FCU, recently partnered with Carvana to raffle a car with proceeds benefitting the Foundation’s scholarship program. The Foundation and Carvana jointly presented winner Sharon K. of Herndon, Va. with a 2014 Ford Escape SE during the giveaway celebration.

“As a NWFCU Foundation donor and member of the NWFCU family, I bought raffle tickets to support the scholarship program and was shocked to learn I was the winner!” said Sharon, the winning member. “I feel blessed to be able to gift the car to my mom. As a military spouse and mother of four, she’s given our family so much, including often loaning her car to my younger brothers. She’s an amazing human being who’s sacrificed her dream of finishing college to take care of everyone around her; thanks to the Foundation’s car raffle, she gets something wonderful just for her!”

The raffle supported the NWFCU Foundation Scholarship Program, now in its 13th year. The program provides both merit and need-based scholarships to college-bound students.

“The partnership with Carvana allowed the NWFCU Foundation to raffle a car with a value of up to $15,000 this year, bringing in thousands of dollars for our 2018 scholarship program,” said the Executive Director of the NWFCU Foundation, Alexzandra Shade. “In 2017, we were able to provide 26 scholarships to deserving students in the amount of $140,000 taking our total to over $1,000,000 awarded since the inception of the program in 2005.”

The raffle stemmed from the partnership between Carvana and Northwest Federal, forged earlier this year to bring credit union members the convenience, selection, and value of purchasing a car from Carvana combined with Northwest Federal’s everyday low rates for vehicle financing.

“Carvana has not only been a great partner for Northwest Federal Credit Union but a generous supporter of our NWFCU Foundation, having donated a car so that all money collected during the raffle could go directly to supporting our scholarship program,” said Acting President and CEO of Northwest Federal Jeff Bentley.
