NEW YORK CITY -- Municipal Credit Union (MCU) has awarded $66,000 in scholarships to college-bound graduating high school seniors: eight memorial scholarship grants of $5,000 each and 13 grants of $2,000 each. The scholarships were presented to the recipients by MCU President/CEO Kam Wong, Chair of the Board Hon. Sylvia G. Ash, and MCU Board of Directors Secretary and Scholarship Coordinator Shirley Jenkins at a special reception at MCU's headquarters.
The recipients of the memorial scholarships are: Noelle Batista, Raven-Dion Blake, Mitashee Das, Jainam Doshi, Elias Kotsis, Daniel Ladner, Katherine O'Donnell and Luce St. Surin.
"I'm extremely proud of this year's group of scholarship winners," said Chair of the Board Hon. Sylvia G. Ash. "These young people have demonstrated a drive and commitment that is undeniable in the many aspects of their lives. They will certainly go far in their endeavors, and I am pleased to know that our contribution to their education will help them to do so."
Scholarship winners were selected based on academic performance, extracurricular and community activities, letters of recommendation, and an essay expressing personal goals. The scholarships are part of MCU's long-standing, larger corporate commitment to youth education and financial literacy across New York City.
"We are so pleased to recognize these exemplary students and provide them with scholarship money to continue their education and achieve their goals," said MCU President/CEO Kam Wong. "MCU is deeply committed to both giving back to our community and to investing in our young people and their education. Our scholarship program is one way we are achieving these objectives, while also recognizing and rewarding the outstanding academic efforts of these youth in our community. We congratulate everyone who received an MCU scholarship or grant."
