Mission FCU Supports 2 Local Groups

SAN DIEGO–Mission Federal Credit Union has provided support for two organizations.

The credit union presented Father Joe’s Villages with a check in support of their pandemic relief efforts in the San Diego community. Along with Mission Fed’s donation of $5,000 those funds were matched by Federal Home Loan Bank San Francisco for a grand total of $10,000. Mission Fed chose Father Joe’s as a partner for this matching grant because it has been a focus of the community, helping not only the less fortunate in San Diego affected by COVID-19 but also to supporting vulnerable individuals in need of food and/or shelter assistance.

Father Joe’s Villages has helped to put up about 500 men, women and children at the convention center during the COVID Crises along with working together with local hotels to house almost 200 seniors to make sure that they are being quarantined by being in the high risk category. Additionally, they opened an additional food service in Downtown San Diego, feeding nearly 500 people per day who are still on the streets or needing food.

Separately, Mission Fed visited the Southwestern Community College (SWC) campus during its student computer distribution event, which is one of the many programs SWC has initiated in order to provide essential services helping students stay in school during the pandemic. Mission Fed presented SWC with (25) $100 gift cards. Student Services will then distribute the gift cards to select students dealing with economic hardships due to COVID-19. Additionally, through its Jag Kitchen Food Pantry, the campus currently assists over 500 students facing food insecurity. Mission Fed is proud of SWC’s commitment to the South Bay community and for their dedication to providing equitable access to high-quality education.
