Minnesota Network Holds Advocacy Training Session

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Credit Union Network (MnCUN) held an Advocacy training session for Grassroots Coordinators from credit unions across the state. The attendees learned best practices on a wide variety of subjects, including organizing credit union staff and members on legislative issues, motivating people to take action, determining the reasons people get involved, and keeping everyone engaged.

“The Grassroots Coordinator training provided me with new methods to increase political awareness and engagement at my credit union,” said Amanda Kissner, Director of Community Affairs for Wakota Federal Credit Union. “The Grassroots Coordinator program is great way to inform staff and members about issues that directly affect our credit union.”

The Grassroots Coordinator program was started in 2013 in an effort to increase advocacy participation among MnCUN’s member credit unions. In addition to attending periodic trainings, Coordinators serve as the primary contact for legislative and regulatory activities as they relate to MnCUN and their credit union. Coordinators work in a variety of job positions within their respective organizations, but all share a passion for the credit union movement and the strength that grassroots engagement can bring to policymaking.
