CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. –Michigan First Credit Union that First for Good, its community giving initiative, has donated more than 1,000 books to the Cascade Township Branch of the Kent District Library.
The donated books were collected during First for Good’s March book drive to celebrate National Reading Month.
Due to safety precautions related to COVID-19, many libraries that rely on donations to maintain their catalog of books have had to turn away contributions over the past year. Additionally, community members who typically donate their used books have been unable to do so.
“This book drive gave us the unique opportunity to assist members who have been unable to donate books because of COVID-19 restrictions while also aiding local libraries that are looking to add to their book collection,” said Michigan First Credit Union President/CEO Michael Poulos. “The outpouring of support from our members was truly incredible. The book drive lasted less than 20 days, but in that time we received more donations than we could have ever imagined. Our members should be proud, knowing that their kindness will go a long way toward helping libraries in the community.”
First for Good’s March book drive ran from March 1-19, 2021, during which its 28 branches set up collection boxes allowing members to bring in their new or gently used books. Throughout the duration of the book drive, the First for Good team worked to transport, clean, sort, count and box the donated books.
Since its launch in 2019, the First for Good Community Crew has surprised and delighted more than 2,000 people and partnered with many dedicated non-profit organizations.
