Member One FCU Hosts 'Save This Buy That Thanksgiving Cookoff'

ROANOKE, Va.--Member One Federal Credit Union hosted the 3rd Annual “Save This Buy That Thanksgiving Cook Off” at the Jefferson Center in Roanoke, Va.  Proceeds from this event generated the highest to date, benefitting Feeding America Southwest Virginia.

Top local chefs competed for the best, budget-friendly Thanksgiving feast.  Local chefs were represented from Cedar’s Lebanese Restaurant, Cornerstone Bar & Grille, Hollywood’s Restaurant & Bakery, Pumpernickel Pickle Catering Company, Sarah's Place and Wall Street Tavern.

Attendees sampled and voted for their favorite meal across several categories.  A panel of local celebrity judges including Sharon Park, local foodie, Chris Morrill, Roanoke City Manager and Local Chef, JP Powell also rated the dishes for the “Judges Choice” award.

The winners included: Best Protein, Hollywood’s Restaurant & Bakery, preparing a Salmon topped with cranberry chutney; Best Side: Cornerstone Bar & Grille, serving white bean cranberry stuffing and creamy horseradish mashed potatoes; Best Desert: Sarah’s Place, serving tropical carrot cake cheesecake; Best Meal (People’s Choice Award): Pumpernickel Pickle Catering Company, serving wild mushroom bread pudding with stuffed cajun turkey breast with giblet gravy, rustic potatoes au gratin, sticky sauce pan carrots and sticky toffee pudding for desert. 

Member One also accepted non-perishable food items at the event, totaling 261 lbs.
