KANSAS CITY, Mo.–Mazuma Credit Union has donated approximately $360,000 to local organizations to help celebrate its 75th anniversary.
The credit union officially marked its 75th year on Feb. 22 with free community events, promotions and give-back efforts. Mazuma noted its “40Hours for Good” program gives team members 40 hours of paid volunteer time each year to support a local nonprofit focused on the arts, financial education or community development.
In 2023, the credit union said participation exceeded 6,300 hours of volunteer time given, including a record day in October in which 180 team members spent more than 1,400 volunteer hours with five local organizations at 10 locations citywide.
“Credit Unions like Mazuma serve a unique and vital purpose in our communities, providing financial opportunities, access, and support with a local focus and dedication to giving back,” President and CEO Deonne Christensen said in a statement. “Our higher purpose is reflected not just in the banking products and services we provide, but also in the larger positive impact we make on our communities. Kansas City is lucky to be home to so many passionate people and organizations that do so much good, and Mazuma is honored to be able to provide support for our 65+ Community Partners by sharing our time, our space, and our resources.”
Mazuma also:
- Offers community spaces at its headquarters and branch locations for free for organizations that want to meet and discuss social or economic initiatives that make Kansas City a better place to live.
- The CU said its Mazuma Foundation recently announced the 2023 grant recipients who have been awarded a combined total of $90,000 in grants. Its Corporate Social Responsibility Program also supported several community partners including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Reconciliation Services, the Victory Project and the Center for Advanced Professional Studies.
