MSUFCU Opens New Branch

EAST LANSING, Mich. — MSU Federal Credit Union  celebrated the grand opening of its Abbot Road Branch with an event for community members and partners.

The new branch at 311 Abbot Road replaces the MSUFCU East Lansing Branch at 523 E. Grand River Ave. It is located on the first floor of MSUFCU’s new Abbot Road Building in downtown East Lansing.

The full-service branch features an integrated design that offers sit-down desks rather than a traditional teller line. The desks are staffed by employees who are universally trained to handle a wide variety of transactions, including opening new accounts and processing loan applications.

The grand opening event included remarks by April Clobes, MSUFCU President/CEO; Gregory Deppong, MSUFCU board chair; Dr. Teresa Woodruff, interim president of Michigan State University; Ron Bacon, mayor of East Lansing; and others.

MSU women’s basketball and track and field athletes with MSUFCU NIL partnerships also attended, including Nala Barlow, Gabby Elliot, Julia Ayrault, Lauren Walker, and Moira Joiner.

After a ceremonial ribbon cutting, attendees toured the Abbot Road Building including the new branch.

“MSUFCU was originally founded to serve and uplift Michigan State University (MSU) faculty, staff, students, and alumni. This new branch represents the Credit Union’s longstanding commitment to East Lansing, our home since 1937, and MSU, the reason we exist,” said Clobes.

“We wanted to provide a walkable space where faculty, staff, and students can conduct business; a place where alumni can work remotely while visiting campus; and a community room where events and programs can be hosted. We are proud to provide a physical space that will not only bring us together but also continue to help activate the local and campus communities. We look forward to continuing to serve the needs of our members to help them achieve financial success and, ultimately, their dreams.”

The Abbot Road Building also has an exhibit space where local artwork and other projects can be featured; a demo space for The Lab at MSUFCU; leasable space; and a community room for health fairs, seminars, board meetings, blood drives, and other events.

Since opening in June, the Abbot Road Branch team has handled 4,810 transactions for members, opened 36 new checking and savings accounts, funded $162,712 in loans, and opened Visa credit cards with a combined $105,500 in credit limits.
