MCU Cuts Ribbon on New Branch; Hosts Delegation from India

NEW YORK CITY -- Municipal Credit Union (MCU) has made its first move into the next generation of in-branch banking, cutting the ribbon on its Rego Center branch.  Congresswoman Grace Meng, State Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr., members of MCU’s board of directors, including Chair Sylvia G. Ash, C. Richard Wagner, Shirley Jenkins, S. Nana Osei-Bonsu, Mario Matos Jr., Tessa Hackett-Vieira, Loretta Jones, Beryl Major, and Thomas Diana, and MCU President/CEO Kam Wong cut the ribbon on the 6,600-square-foot branch, located at 61-35 Junction Blvd in Rego Park.

The new branch features interactive touch-screen displays, self-service iPad kiosks, a Video Conferencing Center, Instant-Deposit ATMs and more. It is the 19th in MCU’s branch network throughout the New York Metropolitan area.

“The new Rego Center Branch is a testament to our growth as we move further into the 21st century,” said MCU Board Chair Sylvia G. Ash. “MCU is deeply committed to serving our membership, and this new branch meets their banking needs. As we enter our centennial year of service to members in 2016, the Rego Center Branch stands as our latest institutional accomplishment, representing the strong, trusted, and growing future of MCU.  We can’t wait for our members to take advantage of all the new tools Rego Center branch has to offer."

The Rego Center branch will replace MCU’s Queens Center Mall branch, keeping the number of MCU branches in the borough at two. MCU's other location in Queens is in Springfield Gardens. MCU also has a location nearby the borough in Elmont, NY, and branches in the four other boroughs, Yonkers, and Long Island.

“We are so proud to cut the ribbon on our Rego Center branch today and thrilled to be able to provide our members with the latest in banking technology at this new branch,” said MCU President/CEO Kam Wong. “Our members deserve the best in-branch banking experience possible, and this branch is our first one to deliver this experience in the most technologically possible way. We know our members will appreciate the advanced banking opportunities available to them in this branch. MCU plans to upgrade our other branches with similar innovations in the near future."

Separately, Municipal CU President/CEO Kam Wong (center) met with representatives from India’s National Federation of State Cooperative Banks (NAFSCOB) at MCU’s corporate office to discuss cooperative banking practices and the structure of credit unions in the United States. The meeting was part of a multi-city trip by the delegation to learn about CU structure, regulation, and the similarities between U.S. CUs and Cooperative Banks in India. This was the first visit by a delegation from India to MCU. MCU has  previously hosted delegations from China, Australia, and Brazil.
