NEW YORK CITY–MCU has awarded $66,000 in scholarships to college-bound graduating high school seniors: eight memorial scholarship grants of $5,000 each and 13 grants of $2,000 each. MCU President/CEO Kam Wong and Board Chair James Durrah presented the scholarships to the recipients at a special reception at MCU’s headquarters.
The recipients of the memorial scholarships are Jihad AbdulSabur, Aadil Khan, Syed Abid Hussain Khan, Brianna Lormil, Truth Muller, Thomas Pinto, Michael Pocress and John Edward Timony III.
“We are recognizing a truly great group of students this year. I am very proud to recognize them for what they have accomplished so far and know they will go far in their educational and professional endeavors. I am pleased to know that our contribution to their education will help them do so," said MCU Board Chair James Durrah.
Scholarship winners were selected based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, community service and involvement, letters of recommendation, and an essay expressing personal goals. The scholarships are part of MCU’s long-standing, larger corporate commitment to youth education across the greater New York City area.
“Our scholarship winners are exceptional young men and women who exemplify our credit union values through their drive, dedication to education, and commitment to community service,” said MCU President/CEO Kam Wong. “I am very proud that our scholarship program is able to support exceptional young people as they pursue the higher education that will help them to achieve goals and realize new dreams. We congratulate everyone who received an MCU scholarship or grant.”
