Los Angeles Honors LAFCU On its 80th Anniversary

GLENDALE, Calif.–– The City of Los Angeles honored Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (LAFCU) with an official proclamation to honor LAFCU’s 80th year in business.

Established during the Great Depression, the credit union was founded when 13 LA City employees pooled together a deposit of $65 to form Los Angeles City Employees Federal Credit Union, which later became Los Angeles Federal Credit Union. Signed by City of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, the proclamation congratulated LAFCU for growing to $845 million in assets and 55,000 members. The proclamation states, “For 80 years, LAFCU has empowered Los Angeles City employees to strengthen their financial standing by providing financial education and myriad products and services that maximize returns and allows LAFCU to be a member’s financial source for life.”

To observe the occasion, LAFCU celebrated its 80th birthday with a grand celebration at all of its Southern California locations earlier this year. The event featured special cupcakes, commemorative anniversary mugs, balloons, decorations and raffles.

Throughout the year, LAFCU has given away an iPad Air 2, an Apple Watch, an Atari Flashback video game console and a Fuji Film Instax Mini 8 instant camera through its Facebook contests using its hashtag “#LAFCUturns80.”

LAFCU members can continue to visit the credit union’s Facebook page to learn how they can win prizes through the end of December. Members are encouraged to tell their family and friends about the credit union’s beneficial financial services and join the party
