Langley For Families Foundation Raises $75K For Local Organizations

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The Langley For Families Foundation has donated $75,000 to local organizations that focus on family issues in the Hampton Roads, Va. area. The nine recipients mark the Foundation's first grant awardees since launching last December.

"The volunteers worked very hard to raise money this first year and the results enabled the Foundation to help the selected local agencies to feed, house and support thousands of people in Hampton Roads. Langley For Families is encouraged by the support of sponsors and individual donators who made the fundraising events a success. People want to help and give. They trust the Foundation will be a good steward of the money and ensure the funds help those in need," stated Langley For Families Foundation Chairman Marilyn Kuhn.

The Langley For Families Foundation operates outside of Langley Federal Credit Union's existing charitable giving structure, complementing the organization's continued charitable giving efforts. The Foundation concentrates on supporting organizations that serve the needs of families. Specific areas of focus include healthcare, housing and human services, safety and security, and financial education. The Foundation is self-funded and run solely by a volunteer Board of Directors as a 501c(3) thereby maximizing dollars distributed in the community.

Monies were raised through various fundraising activities during the year. Eligibility for funds are determined in part by a non-profit's impact on families in the local community, and whether the non-profit fits the mission and areas of focus of the Foundation.
