LAFCU Supports School Band

LANSING, Mich. — LAFCU’s virtual presentation of a $1,000 donation to the Charlotte High School band program resulted in two valued gifts, according to Band Director Jeff Szekely.

“Receiving notification of the donation made my day,” Szekely said. “This donation allows us to replace some equipment earlier than expected but much needed. It was also a gift for our Symphony Band to perform for the presentation, especially since we’ve had no in-person concerts this year due to COVID. Performing for a live audience, even virtually, feels great. Thank you, LAFCU!”

This is the credit union’s 11th annual donation to a high school band program. It’s part of LAFCU’s entertainment sponsorship of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner.

“This sponsorship has provided so much joy in knowing the funds go directly to enhancing students’ high school experience,” said Alyssa Troub, LAFCU marketing and communications specialist. “Even those who are not in the music program benefit from a well-equipped band. School bands are such a source of pride for the school and community, and deservedly so, especially based on the amazing musical talent showcased during our private serenade by the Charlotte High School Symphony Band.”

The band performed three pieces for the virtual presentation, and Szekely accepted the donation on behalf of the 110 students involved in the band program. The funds will go toward the purchase of small percussion instruments and mallets.
