LAFCU Hosts Local Students

LOS ANGELES–– To help educate local youngsters in financial literacy, Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (LAFCU) presented a tour of its Glendale branch and corporate office to the Holy Family High School College Preparatory, a local, all-girls Catholic private school. The event welcomed 54 students and four teachers ready to see what a credit union is and how it operates on a day-to-day basis. The senior girls were from the school’s economic class, which is designed to teach kids about economics and finances.

The tour was given by Marty Goodman, LAFCU Vice President of Marketing who first led the girls through the branch showing them the teller line, where credit union members withdraw cash and make deposits; and the loan service area, where members can apply for loans such as vehicle, real estate, personal, energy and business. The girls also had the opportunity to ask questions about the difference between banks and credit unions and how to open accounts at LAFCU. The tour was a follow up to Cash Rules financial literacy presentation that LAFCU staff gave at the school in September.

Separately, LAFCU hosted a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to debut its new ATM at the Port of Los Angeles “Contracts and Maintenance” building in Wilmington, Calif.. Held in conjunction with a Member Appreciation Day, the event was attended by LAFCU President/CEO John Dea, along with local dignitaries. Located off Fries Street near the 110 Freeway, the location provides Port of LA City employees and the public convenient 24/7 access to cash.  The ATM is at 500 Pier A Street.

Until the installation of this ATM, Port of LA employees working in the building had to travel more than 20 minutes to access the nearest LAFCU ATM. Now they only need to walk down stairs to their building’s lobby. The new ATM allows LAFCU members to withdraw cash, make transfers, and check their balances and transaction history. Deposits of checks can easily be made using the MyLAFCU Mobile app on a smart phone or mobile device.
