GLENDALE, Callif.––Los Angeles Federal Credit Union (LAFCU) welcomed 33 kids at its Second Annual "Bring Your Child to Work Day" at its Main Office and other branches. All kids received a first-hand look at what their moms and dads do at work every day. Hosted by the credit union’s Human Resources Department, the event was filled with activities designed to teach kids how credit unions operate on a day-to-day basis.
Beginning at 7:30am, the children and their parents gathered in the Training Room, as the HR team, welcomed them, fed them breakfast, and distributed animal-themed goodie bags, filled with a Bring Your Child to Work Day t-shirt, sunglasses, a Subway gift card, and the credit union’s kids Looney Tunes savings kit. Later, the children were divided up into groups, and then designated employees took the kids on a tour of LAFCU’s departments including the downstairs Branch, Accounting, Collections, Electronic Services, Information Technology, Loans, Marketing, and more. During the tour, the young guests participated in a series of interactive activities such as, going inside the vault to see where cash is kept and visiting the ATM to see how it works.
For lunch, the kids enjoyed pizza, and in most cases, parents or guardians were able to join their kids. Afterwards, the kids joined their parents to learn about their job duties and functions.
Throughout the day, HR offered arts and crafts activities and played movies for kids who wanted to relax or take a breather from the long day which lasted until 5 pm. At the conclusion of the event, staff took group photos of the kids and then distributed several, fun raffle prizes including colorful piggy banks in the shapes of Marvel characters, Star Wars and Hello Kitty.
Separately, LAFCU was named one of this year’s Top Credit Unions in Los Angeles by AdvisoryHQ, an online ranking media for the bank and credit union industry. Unlike conventional methodologies used by Forbes and Bankrate.com, the firm utilizes its own "Bank and Credit Union Selection Methodology" to evaluate the quality of services and overall value provided by Southern California financial firms, and not their financial ratios, metrics and fees.
The ranking media focused on firms located in California, specifically in Los Angeles and surrounding areas. LAFCU was one of nine financial institutions named in the high selection ranking, and the full results were published in August in the firm’s online news magazine named “AdvisoryHQ News.”
