ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–Kirtland Federal Credit Union, through its Club F.I.T. scholarship program, has awarded four students scholarships as part of a contest in which they wrote an essay about a book that had a major impact in their lives.
Typically, KFCU said it awards three scholarships, but this year the essays were so compelling it awarded four.
The 2020 scholarships recipients are:
- Clara Brisman, who graduated from Denton Calvary Academy in Denton, Texas. She was awarded a $2,000 scholarship and will attend LeTourneau University. The books she wrote about were her algebra, physics and calculus textbooks.
- Madison Sandoval, who graduated from New Mexico Military Institute. She was awarded a $1,500 scholarship and will attend the University of New Mexico. She wrote about the book Elizabeth Blackwell, Girl Doctor.
- Sierra Genné, who graduated from Eldorado High School and will attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. She was awarded a $1,000 scholarship and wrote about The Shack.
- Molly Garretson, who graduated from Rio Rancho High School and will attend either Texas A&M or Texas Tech. She was awarded a $500 scholarship and wrote about the book The Fault in Our Stars.
“Giving scholarships to young people to help them fulfill their dreams is incredibly gratifying,” said Kirtland FCU Senior Vice President of Marketing Rachael Garcia. “Part of Kirtland Federal Credit Union’s mission is to invest in the long-term wellbeing of families in our community, and giving to young people to start them on their journey is a great way to do just that.”
