MIAMI LAKES, Fla.–JetStream Federal Credit Union was a sponsor of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence 27th Annual MLK Day Scholarship Breakfast. This year, 42 high school seniors received college scholarships upon completion of the mentoring program.
Several local dignitaries attended the breakfast including, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, Miami Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, and Miami Dade School Superintendent Alberto Carvalho.
The program founded in 1993 by Rep. Frederica Wilson, provides a mentoring program committed to closing the minority male achievement gap by guiding minority male students along a carefully chartered path through grades K-12 and college. Over $10 million in college scholarships have been awarded to students successfully completing the program.
“Congresswoman Wilson has created an amazing program that has helped so many potentially at risk young men succeed,” said Jeanne Kucey, JetStream’s CEO said. “JetStream Federal is very proud to be a part of the 5000 Role Models of Excellence program.”
