LOWELL, Mass. –Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union said its sponsorship of the exciting “Football for You” non-contact football clinic in Lowell was a big success.
More than 140 youths registered for the one-day clinic, which was coached by New England Patriots Alumni players and was free of charge to local boys and girls, ages 9-14. It was held on May 30th at the Cushing Athletic Complex at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
“We were thrilled to team up with the New England Patriots Alumni organization to offer this program to local youths,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. “It was an exciting and fun day for everyone involved.”
The clinic was non-contact and had a strong focus on leadership, sportsmanship, nutrition, and strength and conditioning. A nutritious lunch was served to all youth participants.
Execs Elected To Nonprofits' Boards
Meanhile, Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union said three of its executives have been elected as members of the boards of directors at several local nonprofit organizations.
Brian Sousa, Senior Vice President-Chief Lending Officer, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell. Sharon Flaherty, Assistant Vice President-Marketing, was elected to the Board of Directors of Girls Inc. of Greater Lowell. And Patricia Cox, Assistant Treasurer-Administration Manager, was elected to the board of the Lowell Transitional Living Center.
3 Sponsored Students Are Award Winners
Separately, Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union also announced that three of its sponsored students were selected as award winners in the Massachusetts Credit Union League’s 2015 Student Essay Contest.
Rachel Modeski, an eighth-grade student at St. Michael School in Lowell, was awarded first place. Makayla Boucher, also an eighth-grade student at St. Michael School in Lowell, and Tristan Correia, an eighth-grade student at Richardson Middle School in Dracut, were selected as two of the eight finalists.
“We are very proud of all the students who submitted such thoughtful essays,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. “We are particularly proud of our three students who were honored by the judges with very prestigious awards.”
A total 1,149 essays were submitted statewide and 216 were received from local schools for the Massachusetts Credit Union League’s contest, which was open to students in the seventh and eighth grades. Students were asked to respond to the question: “As a young adult, what do you think is the most important lesson credit unions can teach young people about managing their financial lives that will help them as they grow into adults with careers and families?”
The winner and finalists were honored at a special Awards Ceremony held at the Statehouse in Boston. During the ceremony, Rachel Modeski was presented with a check for $500 and the finalists were each presented with checks for $250.
In addition, Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union has announced the winners of this year’s MoneyStrong college scholarship program. The winners received a total of $9,500 to help fund their education costs.
“College expenses have risen dramatically in recent years and we are happy to provide hard-working local students with assistance in meeting those costs,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union.
The winners of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union’s 15th annual scholarship contest were asked to respond to the following: “What is the most important financial lesson you have learned, and how does your credit union membership factor into that lesson?” The submitted essays were informative and well-written. The high school winners each received a $500 scholarship at a recent reception at Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union’s headquarters at 1 Tremont Place, Lowell. The two college winners each received a $1,000 scholarship at the reception.
The MoneyStrong scholarship winners include: Gabrielle Grant of Dracut, College of the Holy Cross; Jacob Ashley of Chelmsford, University of Massachusetts Lowell; Curtis Boucher of Dunstable, Central Catholic High School; Kripa Joseph, Chelmsford High School; Joshua Lowe of Dracut, Essex Technical High School; Katelyn Leboeuf, Dracut High School; Alexander Corcoran, Dracut High School; Andrew Karlson, Dracut High School; Mackenzie Webb of Dunstable, Groton Dunstable Regional High School; Sandy Hean, Lowell High School; Kimberly Nguyen, Lowell High School; Katherine Coughlin, Lowell High School; Daniel Rios, Lowell High School; Alexis Sprowl, Lowell High School; Brooke Paradis, Pelham High School; Emily Holleran of Methuen, Presentation of Mary Academy; and Karolina Rijo, Lowell High School.
Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union also awarded $4,500 in employee college scholarships. Recipients of $1,000 scholarships are: Jessica McNeill, University of New Hampshire; Meghan Messer, University of Massachusetts Lowell; and Sarah Comtois, Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. Recipients of $500 scholarships are: Ariel Rothman, American University; Kellie McDonald, Massachusetts College of Art and Design; and Carlos Ortiz, University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Finally, more than 65 friends, family members and employees of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union rallied together in support of Lowell General Hospital’s TeamWalk for Cancer Care.
TeamWalk funds help Lowell General Hospital’s Cancer Care Center pay for medication, nutritional supplements, nursing visits and other services that make a significant difference in the lives of people living with all types of cancer. Through fundraising efforts and a corporate donation, the Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union team raised more than $5,000 for the event.
