LOWELL, Mass.–Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union sponsored “Football for YOU” clinic, participated in the TeamWalk, and collected books for the YMCA.
Hundreds of Lowell area youth joined players from the New England Patriots Alumni at the UMass Lowell Cushing Athletic Complex to participate in “Football For YOU.” Sponsored for the fourth year by Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. “Football For YOU” is a one-day, free football clinic, open to boys and girls, ages 9-14, of all skill levels.
More than 300 children registered for this event, presented by the New England Patriots Alumni Club. Patriots Alumni Ilia Jarostchuk, Rick Buffington, Jim Bowman, Steve Nelson, Steve King and Alumni Club President, Pete Brock, coached the kids in non-contact strength and conditioning exercises. Participants ran agility exercises across the field, maneuvering around cones, they were challenged to ladder jumps, and even practiced defensive blocks against pads.
The clinic also focused on education for parents and guardians which included topics such as nutrition, strength training, leadership and sportsmanship. A nutritious lunch was served to all participants.
“This year’s Football For YOU camp had a tremendous turnout,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. “It’s so great to see these kids getting out on the field with the Alumni players. It was a fun day for everyone involved” he added.
Because The New England Patriots Alumni Club is a non-profit, it can provide more than the fundamentals of football to communities around New England. The organization is also able to assist other community non-profits through monetary donations. At this year’s Lowell camp, the Patriots Alumni Club donated $2,500 to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Lowell.
Separately, nearly 70 friends, family members and employees of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union stepped out to support Lowell General Hospital’s 18th Annual TeamWalk for Cancer Care.
TeamWalk funds help Lowell General Hospital’s Cancer Care Center pay for medication, nutritional supplements, nursing visits and other services that help those in our community living with all types of cancer. Through fundraising efforts and a corporate donation, the Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union team raised more than $13,000 for the event.
So far, Lowell General Hospital’s TeamWalk has raised a record-breaking $920,000, with more donations still pouring in. Lowell General has set a goal to raise $1 million by September 30th.
We are always excited to come together in support of our friends at Lowell General Hospital,” says CEO Mark S. Cochran. “They do amazing work each and every day to help people within our local community fight against cancer. The TeamWalk for Cancer Care continues to be an incredible community event and we are proud to participate,” he added.
The TeamWalk began at the Tsongas Center. Walkers could participate in the 6.2 mile or 3 mile walk.
In addition, in support of the Greater Lowell YMCA’s mission to curb summer learning loss, Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union recently held an organization-wide book collection. In total, Credit Union employees donated 350 books for the YMCA’s summer reading program.
“[The books] will be a great benefit to the Y and the kids,” said Kevin Morrissey, Chief Executive Officer of Greater Lowell YMCA.
Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark S. Cochran, and Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, as well as new board member of the Greater Lowell YMCA, Michelle Silveira, delivered the books to eager students during the YMCA’s after-school program on June 1st.
The students were excited to go through the boxes and see all the new books that would be joining them just in time for summer.
“We’re happy to support the YMCA in a way that will directly benefit the children and give them learning opportunities throughout the summer months,” said Cochran. “It was really nice to see the excitement on the kids’ faces when they received so many new books,” he added.
