SCHAUMBURG, Ill.– The Illinois Credit Union League’s (ICUL) hosted its 87th Annual Convention here with more than 675 attendees from 108 credit unions and 170 exhibitors to the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel & Convention Center.
This year’s theme, “The Art of Creating Value” represented a mission of the League to help Illinois credit unions create innovative ways to bring value to their members.
The 87th Convention featured a wide array of exciting and informative events and presentations. Guest speakers included Chicago broadcasting legend and voice of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Wolves, Wayne Messmer, who kicked off the opening session with his inspirational presentation “The Voice of Victory.” Messmer, who also co-founded the financial planning firm Wayne Messmer & Associates, LLC, led a breakout session later in the day entitled “The Retirement Puzzle.”
Other breakout session topics included cyber security, financial literacy training, protecting against financial exploitation of the elderly, and even a session on overcoming barriers to team problem solving using lessons from Star Wars.
Recognized during the meeting were:
Desjardins Financial Education Awards: NuMark CU received 1st place in both Youth and Adult Financial Education in the $50 - $250 million category. KCT CU took 2nd in Adult. In the $250 million - $1 billion category, 1st MidAmerica CU took first in both Youth and Adult Financial Education. Great Lakes CU took second in Youth. Finally, Scott CU took 1st place for both Youth and Adult Financial Education in the $1 billion & above category.
The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Awards: In the $50 - $250 million category, KCT CU received top honors, while NuMark CU and Rock Valley Federal CU tied for 2nd place. GCS CU took 1st prize in the category of $250 million - $1 billion. Great Lakes CU took 2nd prize. Rounding out this year’s Dora Maxwell competition in the category of $1 billion & above, Scott CU earned 1st place for the second year in a row.
Louise Herring Philosophy-in-Action Awards: In the category of $50 to $250 million in assets, 1st place went to KCT CU. In the $250 million - $1 billion category, the top prize was earned by 1st MidAmerica CU. Finally, in the category of $1 billion & above, 1st place went to Scott CU.
