FITCHBURG, Mass.–IC FCU has helped raise funds to help local firefighters.
“Firefighters are 63% more likely to get 15-20 different types of cancer over their careers than the general public,” said Lt. Patrick J. Roy, “and this is due to the carcinogens and chemicals we face in a fire situation and when responding to hazardous materials incidents. IC has always been at the forefront of supporting the Fitchburg Firefighters, and we sincerely appreciate it.”
“This is a devastating statistic,” said Tony Emerson, president & CEO of IC Federal Credit Union, “and though we can’t help fight the fires, we can do our part by helping secure the necessary equipment to wash and dry their turnout gear, thus helping reduce their exposure.”
Lieutenant Roy went on to say that the city of Fitchburg lost two firefighters in the line of duty due to cancer, and numerous others have battled or are battling cancer.
