Hughes FCU Awards Scholarships

TUCSON, Ariz. – Hughes Federal Credit Union has announced the names of five high school seniors who will each receive a $2,000 scholarship in support of their continuing education from the credit union’s Annual Scholarship Program.

The scholarship recipients are:

  • Dallin Chipman – Sabino High School
  • Ethan Kessel – East Tucson Homeschool Student
  • Jonathan Hasenstab – Empire High School
  • Lauren Graffam – Salpointe High School
  • Justin Offolter – Marana Homeschool Student

“We’re excited to help students ease the financial burden associated with higher education,” Hughes Marketing Manager Dani Gomez said. “For the last 15 years, it has been our honor to make a positive difference in the lives of deserving young students.”

Students were required to submit an essay or video answering the question, “How do you plan to manage your money during college and how can Hughes help?” The winners were selected by panel of 12 judges who scored the students’ submissions, scholastic excellence, extracurricular commitments, and community service. The scholarship program was open to all high school seniors who were members of the credit union.

Since 2005, Hughes has granted $90,000 in scholarships to deserving high school graduates entering college or trade school.

In addition to its scholarship program, Hughes said it actively supports youth financial literacy through its education partnerships with local school districts and community associations including the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona.

The Credit Union is also the title sponsor for Arizona KidCats Club and Take Charge Cats, both University of Arizona-affiliated groups aimed at improving the financial literacy of local youth and promoting higher education.
