Homefield CU Staff Participate in Cancer Walk & Run

NORTH GRAFTON, Mass.–Under warm, sunny skies, a number of Homefield Credit Union employees participated in the 21th Annual UMass Cancer Walk & Run.  The Homefield Allstars Team joined thousands of others who either walked or ran along the five-mile route in Worcester.

“In 2018, the Homefield Allstars raised $3,000 as a result of the generosity of family, friends, and credit union members,” said President/CEO Karl J. Moisan. “In 2019, the Allstars decided to up their goal to $5,000.  The team’s dedication to reaching their goal was unmistakable during the past several months.  My sincere thanks go out to everyone who donated time and money so researchers will be able to continue making progress in the prevention, detection, and treatment of this disease.”

The Homefield Allstars began fundraising in June.  The team’s most successful fundraiser was a yard sale, held at the Credit Union’s Grafton location.  Yard sale enthusiasts came by in droves, many leaving with their trunks full of treasures.  Other fundraising events included two “Dine Out for a Cause” events at area restaurants, employee dress-down days, donation jars in branch locations, as well as individual fundraising.

Due to the overwhelming generosity of so many, this year’s UMass Cancer Walk & Run raised over $750,000.  All money raised will support adult and pediatric cancer research and care, and fund clinical trials of new, potentially lifesaving cancer therapies at UMass.
