ROCHESTER, N.H. – More than 50 staff members, volunteers, family and friends from Holy Rosary Credit Union (HRCU) participated in the 2015 Rochester Relay For Life, raising $11,691 for the American Cancer Society.
The “HRCU Crusaders” were one of 55 teams that camped out at the Rochester Middle School, taking turns walking around a track and having at least one team member walk for each of the 17 hours of the event.
“Relay For Life is a great cause to support in our community,” said Kristy Methot, AVP of Financial Services at HRCU. “It is amazing to see our team work together fundraising all year long and then participating at the event.”
For their efforts, the Crusaders were recognized with the 2015 Gordy Award. The award, an elaborately decorated chair honoring the late Dr. Gordy Klatt, annually recognizes a participating team that demonstrates exemplary spirit, teamwork and fundraising.
“It was a tremendous honor to be recognized with the Gordy Award, but above all else, we are just happy to be able to support Relay For Life,” said Leanne Walters, Financial Services Associate at HRCU and Crusaders co-captain.
The HRCU Crusaders grassroots fundraising efforts began in February with a Valentine’s Day raffle and continued with bake sales, hot dog lunches, popcorn days, and Red Sox ticket raffles. They also received countless donation from credit union members and supporters.
“The fundraising was truly a team effort. Last year we raised $10,000 and it was our goal to surpass that mark this year. With everyone chipping in, we were able to reach our goal and surpass our expectations.” said Megan Cote, Financial Services Associate at HRCU and Crusaders co-captain.
