Heartland Teaches Literacy; Leads Easter Egg Hunt

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, Minn.– Heartland Credit Union Director of Corporate Relations Sharon Vandehoef and Call Center Supervisor Caitlin Barrineau taught the importance of saving and investing, Credit Union 101 and Identity Theft to New Prague, Minn. high school students.

Invited by the Family and Consumer Science teacher, the Heartland team taught 30 students over two days.

“We were excited to be asked back to the school to teach a new set of students,” said Vandehoef. “Helping students understand their finances and answer all of their questions is an important tool to their future success. We’re proud to be part of that.”

Separately, Heartland Credit Union (was once again the main sponsor of the Inver Grove Heights, Minn. Egg Hunt, coordinated by Inver Grove Heights Park and Recreation.

More than 375 kids, ages 3-13, participated in the Egg Hunt, including a special Flashlight Egg Hunt in the evening for 10 to 13 year olds. Heartland has sponsored this event for a number of years and is proud to volunteer each year at the event. In addition to volunteering at the event, Heartland provides the special golden egg prizes and collects and awards prizes for an Easter Coloring Contest in conjunction with the event.

“It’s always fun to see the kids gather their eggs and watch their faces light up when they find the golden egg,” said Karen Rustad, Heartland Financial Service Officer. “It’s a fun event for Heartland, as well as the community. We look forward to many more years participating.”
