Hawaii Community FCU Raises $10K in Relay for Life

KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii — For the second year in a row, Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union (HCFCU) exceeded its fundraising goals by more than $4,000, resulting in a $10,135 donation to the 2017 Relay for Life of Kona, a non-profit fundraising initiative of the American Cancer Society.

The funds were raised through in-branch donations from members and staff as well as other fundraising strategies such as selling Punalu`u Sweet Bread, Relay for Life Ribbons, Chocolate Bar Sales and other activities. Since 2016 HCFCU has been able to raise more than $20,000 for the Relay for Life initiatives on Hawaii Island.

The main event, which took place at the Old Kona Airport Park, featured a six-hour fundraising relay with hundreds of people walking to celebrate cancer survivors, remembering those who lost their struggle with the disease and supporting those still fighting cancer every day.

According to the Relay for Life of Kona website, 30 local teams helped raise more than $71,000 so far this year.
