Hanscom FCU Supports ALS Graduation, Fisher House

HANSCOM AFB, Mass.– The most recent group of graduates from the Hanscom Air Force Base Airman Leadership School (ALS) received recognition at a graduation ceremony that was sponsored by Hansom FCU, as it has for many years.

The graduation ceremony recognizes future noncommissioned officers who complete the five-week class. The program is designed to prepare graduates for supervisory roles. Participants study academics, hone their leadership skills, and participate in team exercises. “We fully support efforts to improve oneself with education,” said Paul Marotta, Chairman of the Board for Hanscom FCU. “There is no better return on one’s time and energy than learning, and these young men and women are to be congratulated for taking this opportunity to grow.”

Separately, Hanscom FCU volunteers visited Fisher House Boston to prepare a meal for guests. Fisher House Boston, located at the West Roxbury VA Boston Healthcare Medical facility, provides housing at no charge to family members caring for hospitalized veterans.

“Caring for a loved one in the hospital is stressful,” said Marotta. “When the hospital is located in another city, the financial issues increase and there are fewer resources to count on. Fisher House really saves the day by providing a place to stay and staff that understand what guests are experiencing. Preparing a home-cooked meal is part of how we care for our community. On this visit, Col. Roman Hund, commander of the 66th Air Base Group at Hanscom Air Force Base, and his wife Hilary joined the group. “Col. Hund was able to get a first-hand look at the great impact Fisher House has on veterans and their families,” noted Marotta.

Hanscom FCU has supported Fisher House Boston since the facility opened in 2010. In addition to cooking, the credit union provides financial support for Fisher House Boston and guests.
