Hanscom FCU Awards Scholarships; Cuts Ribbon on Branch

HANSCOM AFB, Mass.–Hanscom FCU recognized seven high school students with college scholarships at its recent annual meeting, while also cutting the ribbon on a new branch.

Five credit union members and two students from local Air Force Junior ROTC units each received $1,500 towards college expenses.

The John F. Condon scholarship is named after a former board member who contributed substantially to Hanscom FCU’s success in his 26 years of volunteer service. The award is based on academic record, extracurricular activities and an essay.

This year’s recipients are Logan Stansbury of North Reading, Michael McAlarney of Lexington, Benjamin Lacroix of Littleton, Matthew Dunbar of Franklin, and Wesley Gallishaw of Seekonk.

“Today’s students embody the community’s hopes for the future,” said Chairman of the Board Paul Marotta. “Anything we can do to help them get the tools they need is a good investment.”

Separately, Hanscom FCU celebrated its new branch in Billerica with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event drew dozens to the Treble Cove Plaza, including industry leaders, community representatives, employees, and credit union members.

“It has always been our desire to provide branch service to members living and working in the Route 3 corridor,” said Marotta.

The branch is located next to the Market Basket and is open six days a week. Four full-time staff members provide account and loan services as well as financial education and advice. The branch has 24-hour ATM service, and offers free, public seminars on topics such as budget planning, home buying, and car shopping.

Hanscom FCU marked the occasion with a $1,000 donation to the Billerica Food Pantry, a service of the town’s Veterans Services department. “Credit unions live by the principle of People Helping People,” Marotta noted. “We look for opportunities to improve the community we serve.”
