WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.–Guardians Credit Union has been awarded a national designation as a Juntos Avanzamos (“Together We Advance”) credit union, which recognizes credit unions committed to serving and empowering Hispanic and immigrant consumers and helping them navigate the U.S. financial system.
Juntos Avanzamos credit unions are recognized nationally for providing safe, affordable and relevant financial services to Hispanic and immigrant consumers.An extensive application process carefully evaluated by Juntos Avanzamos program officials determines the validity of each credit union’s business practices related to serving the Hispanic community. Juntos Avanzamos credit unions employ bilingual, culturally-competent staff and leadership, accept alternative forms of ID and treats all of their members with respect, regardless of immigration status.
Pablo deFelippe of Inclusiv presented the proclamation to Guardians’ President/CEO John Deese and Chairman Tom Shea. Maria Antuna of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County and Jordan Borroughs of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions, and CEO John Deese spoke about how this designation will benefit the West Palm Beach community.
“We are pleased to achieve this momentous designation that will allow us to better serve all members of our community,” said Deese. “Financial inclusion is one of our main priorities and our newest designation as a Juntos Avanzamos credit union recognizes our overall commitment to serving a demographic that makes up a significant portion of our communities we live and work in. This is a very big accomplishment for us, and for the communities we serve.”
The celebration featured speakers from the community and key Guardians Credit Union staff members dedicated to making this designation a reality. Guests enjoyed performances by Okeeheelee Middle School’s La Tuna, Mariachi Pancho Villa and Bolivian dancers, as well as delicious Cuban food.
