BANNOCKBURN, Ill.–Linda Hall of Maywood, Ill. has been presented with a $5,000 vacation package courtesy of Great Lakes Credit Union (GLCU). Hall, a member of GLCU, was randomly selected as the lucky winner in a drawing held on after the conclusion of the credit union’s Swipe Away, Fly Away contest.
Hall won a $3,500 travel certificate, which gives her opportunity to travel to a destination of her dreams. GLCU also gave her an additional $1,500 to spend on travel incidentals. “I couldn’t believe I won when Great Lakes Credit Union called me!” Hall says. “I plan on taking my grandson to visit his grandfather in Barbados.”
The contest ran between Jan. 1 and March 31, 2016. Entrants needed to swipe their debit card 100 or more times during the promotional period and select “credit” when making purchases to be automatically entered into the drawing.
“We love to offer contests like this one to our members and the community at large. They raise awareness of credit unions like ours and benefit our members in profound ways,” says Vikki Kaiser President/CEO.
Now that the Swipe Away, Fly Away contest is concluded, GLCU said it is launching a monthly Credit with Debit contest to keep the momentum going. If members use their GLCU debit cards 25 times or more in a month as a “credit transaction” they will be automatically entered in a random monthly drawing to win $100 Visa gift card. At the end of December the names of all those who used their debit card 300 times or more as a “credit transaction” between April 1 and December 31, 2016, will be entered in the random annual drawing to win the $1,000 Visa gift card Grand Prize.
Separately, GLCU recently visited its local Jimmy John’s and performed numerous random acts of kindness! Jimmy John’s was celebrating their Nationwide Customer Appreciation Day by offering $1 sandwiches to their customers. Heather Clark, Branch Manager, and her team bought sandwiches for 50 Jimmy John’s customers.
Word traveled quickly and within minutes Heather received a voice message from a thankful onlooker, “I was recently at the Zion location by Jimmy John’s and someone from there was passing out dollar bills for the Jimmy John’s sandwich – so I just want to personally thank you.”
All year long employees at GLCU branches will perform various random acts of kindness as a way to make a direct impact and give back to their communities.

Grace Szajowska, Branch Manager, and her team purchased breakfast for Country Donuts patrons while sharing information about the credit union difference.
