Georgia United Names Winners of School Crashers Program

DULUTH, Ga.– The Georgia United Credit Union Foundation has named the recipients of its seventh annual School Crashers program.

School Crashers is the Foundation’s largest community service program, and offers schools across the state the opportunity to apply for a school facility makeover. The program brings together communities by supporting local school systems with the end goal of improving the learning environment for the students, faculty and staff.

Georgia United Foundation opened the School Crashers program nominations in March to all accredited K-12 schools in Georgia. Interested schools were asked to include a photograph along with a 250-word essay explaining why their school should receive a makeover. Though schools were unexpectedly ordered to close mid-March due the coronavirus pandemic, more than 200 nomination submissions for this year’s program were received. Georgia United said after a rigorous judging process, the following schools have been named to receive facility improvements over the summer:

  • Hillcrest Elementary, 1100 Edgewood Dr., Dublin, GA – Playground
  • New Hope Middle School, 1111 New Hope Rd., Dalton, GA - Sensory Room
  • B.B. Harris Elementary, 3123 Claiborne Dr. NW, Duluth – Playground
  • Jolly Elementary, 1070 Otello Ave, Clarkston - Playground
  • Walnut Grove Elementary, 75 Taylor Rd., Suwanee – Pre-K Accessibility Playground

“Over the last six years, School Crashers has provided 43 makeovers with improvements valued over $1,300,000,” said President and CEO Debbie Smith. “We look forward to our seventh year of serving our communities and strengthening our school systems by providing inspiring learning spaces for students to experience when they return to school this fall.”
