AUBURN HILLS, Mich.— Jackie Buchanan, president and CEO of Genisys Credit Union, has been inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders, a national recognition honoring credit union executives who have made significant contributions to the movement and the communities they serve.
Buchanan was one of 18 industry leaders recognized during a ceremony in Washington in March, held in conjunction with the credit union movement’s annual national advocacy event. The honor cited her leadership in growing Genisys into one of Michigan’s largest and strongest credit unions, while also emphasizing her focus on financial education and community impact.
Since becoming CEO in 2010, Buchanan has overseen nearly 400% growth in assets at Genisys, which now tops $6.4 billion, along with a 535% increase in loan production. The credit union, which is marking its 90th anniversary this year, now serves nearly 300,000 members through a 32-branch network, further cementing its position among Michigan’s largest credit unions.
Buchanan, a 30-year credit union veteran, said the recognition reflects the efforts of the broader Genisys team and the cooperative values of the movement. She said she is proud to be part of a system built on service and collaboration and credited the organization’s long-term success to staying focused on its mission as a member-owned financial institution.
Beyond Genisys, Buchanan remains active in the broader financial services and nonprofit sectors, serving on the boards of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis, Velera and CU Solutions Group, while also supporting housing and homelessness initiatives in Michigan. The credit union said her involvement helped Genisys secure $3.2 million in Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis funding to support development of 229 affordable housing units in the state through Lighthouse MI and Community Housing Network.
