GTE Financial Awards 36 Scholarships

TAMPA, Fla.– As part of an annual commitment to invest in the education of the community’s future leaders, GTE Financial is awarding 36 local high school and undergraduate students with scholarships to ease the financial burden of college.

Among those nominated include a student who started a nonprofit to fund an elementary school for kids in Uruguay; a student returning to college to begin their second career and who is a kind-hearted “Santa” who makes Christmas wishes come true for senior community members; and an aspiring pediatric oncologist who, for now, works to put smiles on the faces of young patients until he can one day treat them himself.

GTE Financial will award a total of $90,000 in scholarships to students during an awards luncheon.

“We receive hundreds of nominations every year, and we’re so inspired by the stories of these students, their desire to make the world a better place and their commitment to their education,” said Brian Best, president and CEO of GTE Financial. “These students are the next generation of leaders so it only makes sense for us to invest in our future. It is our responsibility to serve our community – and we are proud to acknowledge these students for their admirable accomplishments and are proud to be part of their continued success.”

A group of 24 prominent leaders of the Tampa Bay community reviewed, evaluated and selected 36 students who have demonstrated dedication, perseverance and a commitment to their education while also giving back to their communities. Each of the recipients will receive $2,500 toward their education.
