APPLETON, Wis.– The Greater Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions delivered $20,000 to area hospitals to use for safety expenses related to battling the COVID-19 pandemic in Northeast Wisconsin. Fourteen area credit unions donated $18,850 and the chapter chipped in to raise the total to $20,000.
“Our chapter’s goal is to give back to the community and exemplify the philosophy that all credit unions live by every day: people helping people,” said Hilary All, president of the Greater Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions. “What a unique opportunity to do just that, give help where it is needed most; the front lines of the hospitals and all of the medical staff. Many have been giving their all and going without, struggling to make it through the day while reusing masks, running out of supplies, and just being overburdened with the pandemic and all that it has cost. It has been awesome to see our member credit unions come together to help swiftly and quickly, with such an abundance of financial support and giving. I’m excited to get these vital supplies distributed as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone who donated to help make a difference.”
The chapter board approved the distribution of the donations to hospitals throughout Northeast Wisconsin including:
- Ascension’s St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Calumet Hospital in Chilton and Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh.
- Bellin Hospital in Green Bay.
- St. Mary’s Foundation supporting St. Vincent’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital both in Green Bay
- Theda Care’s 7 hospitals in Appleton, Berlin, Neenah, New London, Shawano, Wild Rose and Waupaca.
The funds will be used on personal protective gear for staff, technology to allow patients to videoconference with family, financial support for workers, and financial support for the poor and vulnerable.
“When the board came up with the idea of helping our local healthcare workers stay safe, it was refreshing at how fast the credit unions responded to the ask. It makes me proud to be part of the credit union chapter,” said Lynn Hopfensperger, fund raising officer of the Greater Fox Cities Chapter of Credit Unions.
Participating credit unions include Badger Globe, Capital, Community First, CONE, Evergreen, Fox Communities, Health Care, PCM, Prospera, Thrivent Federal, Unison, Verve, Winnebago Community and Wisconsin Medical.
