For One Day, Redwood is Shredwood

NAPA, Calif – Redwood Credit Union hosted a free document shredding event at the County of Napa Sullivan Lot. Close to 500 local residents brought old financial documents and other confidential paperwork to be shredded by Shred-IT, which provided shredding trucks on-site for the Credit Union’s annual Shred-a-Thon.

More than seven tons of documents were securely destroyed and recycled at the event. Shred-IT provided RCU with an environmental impact certificate stating that the event helped save 120 trees; 29,001 Kw/Hrs of electricity; 2,827 reams of paper; and 49,459 gallons of water.

“Shredding old financial documents and other confidential paperwork is one of the best measures people can take to protect themselves from identity theft,” said Lindsay Jones, RCU’s Napa branch manager.

In addition to the shredding service, RCU also collected nearly $1,700 in monetary donations at the event to benefit Puertas Abiertas Community Resource Center,  an organization that works hand in hand with Latinos to inspire and achieve healthy living, self-sufficiency, and opportunities for leadership and community engagement.
