Five Star CU Foundation Awards Scholarships

ENTERPRISE, Ala.–– The Five Star Credit Union Foundation has awarded $50,000 in college scholarship grants to five schools in the communities it serves.

The grants will help students pay for their freshman year of college for the 2023-2024 school year. The partnership helps to remove the financial barrier to college for students in the Wiregrass and Brunswick, Ga., the credit union said.

“The primary focus of the Five Star Credit Union Foundation is helping students get an education,” said Robert A. Steensma, president of the Five Star Credit Union Foundation. “Right now, money is tight for families. This grant will take away the stress for students to attend college without the worry of how they will pay for classes. We want to brighten the financial future of the communities we serve. That starts with gaining an education with as little debt as possible.”

The Five Star Credit Union Foundation awarded the $50,000 grants in $10,000 increments. Wallace Community College in Dothan, Ala. received $10,000. Wallace Community College in Eufaula, Ala. received $10,000. Southern Regional Technical College in Bainbridge, Ga. received $10,000. Enterprise State College in Enterprise, Ala. received $10,000.

The grants will help 17 students attend college tuition-free their freshman year. Each grant goes into the scholarship system at each college. The recipients of the scholarship are chosen by each college.

The Five Star Credit Union Foundation has awarded $80,000 in scholarship grants over the past two years. This has helped 27 students attend college tuition free their freshman year.
