BURNSVILLE, Minn.–Firefly Credit Union’s first student-run branch has opened at Burnsville High School. The planning of the branch, which has been ongoing for more than a year, is a continuing collaboration between students, BHS and District 191 staff, and the Firefly executive team.
Students of BHS’s DECA organization, as well as their advisors, Michele Carroll and Meggan Malone, have worked diligently on this project from meetings with the project’s architect on renderings of the space, located in the high school’s new activity center, to working with Firefly’s marketing team to create a promotional plan for the new branch.
“The students have really been involved in all aspects of the Burnsville High School branch,” said Marty Kelly, SVP/Chief Marketing Officer at Firefly Credit Union. “Over the past year, a core group of BHS DECA students have immersed themselves in our brand and have gained invaluable experiences volunteering at our events and spending their summers working at our Burnsville branch, right up the road from the high school.”
Kelly continued to note that the students have spent countless hours working directly with Firefly employees in various departments to create their own promotional materials and events for the branch. They have also collaborated with product development teams to create an exclusive checking account for students at the high school.
