BURNSVILLE, Minn.––Firefly Credit Union employees recently participated in a money simulation at Rosemount High School.
Students were given a monthly income and had to manage their expenses in this interactive exercise. The purpose of the money simulation was to provide a hands-on learning opportunity for high school students. The simulation taught students important lessons about money and personal finances.
Twenty employees from Firefly volunteered to play the role of various merchants within the money simulation. The merchant tables consisted of different expenses that occur in real-life, including housing, transportation, groceries, clothing, and childcare. Students visited the different merchants to use budgeting and critical thinking skills to decide how much money they had available to spend.
“The money simulation at Rosemount High School is always a positive experience for our staff and the students,” said Marty Kelly, SVP/chief marketing Officer at Firefly. “We are happy to help teach students about managing their money in a hands-on way. It truly is never too early to start learning about personal finance!”
