BURNSVILLE, Minn.––Firefly Credit Union partnered with Shred Right and Green Lights Recycling, Inc. to host its annual Community Shred Event.
The event was held at Firefly’s Burnsville, Bloomington, Fridley, Lakeville and Maple Grove locations. Members and community members alike who attended the event brought in sensitive documents, which were shredded on-site, as well as electronic items to be securely recycled.
This annual Firefly Credit Union event not only provides a way for those in the community to protect themselves against identity theft by securely shredding important documents, but it also has a positive impact on the environment, the credit union said.
This event alone helped members of the Twin Cities keep 3,907 pounds of electronics of out landfills, Firefly reported. Attendees also recycled 38,019 pounds of paper. According to Shred Right, the recycled paper equates to saving 323 trees, 133,066 gallons of water, 57.03 cubic yards in landfills and 9.5 years of energy for the average home.
