BURNSVILLE, Minn.–Firefly Credit Union partnered with Shred Right, Green Lights Recycling, Inc., and the Better Business Bureau to host Secure Your ID Day, a community shred event.
The event was held at Firefly’s Bloomington, Burnsville, Fridley, Lakeville and Minneapolis locations. Members and community members alike who attended the event brought in sensitive documents, which were shredded on-site, as well as electronic items to be securely recycled.
This semi-annual Firefly Credit Union event not only provides a way for those in the community to protect themselves against identity theft by securely shredding important documents, but it also has a positive impact on the environment, the CU reported.
“This event alone helped members of the Greater Twin Cities Community keep 5,616 pounds of electronics of out landfills. Attendees also recycled 36,094 pounds, roughly 18 tons, of paper,” the credit union said. “According to Shred Right, the recycled paper equates to saving 306 trees, 126,329 gallons of water, and 54.14 cubic yards in landfills.
