BURNSVILLE, Minn.–Firefly Credit Union collaborated with Shred Right and Green Lights Recycling, Inc. to host its annual Community Shred Event.
The event was held at Firefly’s Bloomington, Brooklyn Park, Burnsville, Lakeville, and Maple Grove locations. Members and community members alike who attended the event brought in sensitive documents, which were shredded on-site, as well as electronic items to be securely recycled.
This annual Firefly Credit Union event not only provides a way for those in the community to protect themselves against identity theft by securely shredding important documents, but it also has a positive impact on the environment. This event alone helped residents of the Twin Cities keep 2,767 pounds of electronics out of landfills. Attendees also recycled 39,815 pounds of paper, the credit union reported.
According to Shred Right, the recycled paper equates to saving 338 trees, 139,353 gallons of water, 59 cubic yards in landfills, and ten years of energy for the average home.
