DAYTON, Ohio– The Firefighters & Company Federal Credit Union is donating carbon monoxide detectors for the fifth year in a row. The CO detectors will be donated to the local fire departments in the communities the credit union serves, including those hit hardest by the Memorial Day tornadoes last year.
The credit union serves all of Montgomery, Greene and Miami counties. Departments, including Dayton, Trotwood, Brookville, Harrison Township, Riverside, Vandalia, Butler Township, and West Carrollton, will be receiving the donations over the next several weeks. Additional departments in Greene and Miami counties are being contacted as well for the donation. A total of 541 detectors will go out to the local departments this month.
A total of 2,100 detectors have been donated over the last five years as part of the credit union's initiative to give back to the community through funds from their holiday skip-a-payment program. For each fee received from their members to elect to skip their loan payments during the holidays, the credit union donates a CO detector to the local fire departments to give out to their residents in need.
The donation over the years totals almost $30,000.
"We have been really happy to see this program grow and to be able to serve more and more of the fire departments and the residents in need. With this past year’s tornado, we wanted to make sure to include the departments most affected in the three counties we serve.” said Shannon O'Neill, marketing manager for Firefighters & Company FCU.
