DAYTON, Ohio–The Firefighters & Company FCU is donating 820 carbon monoxide detectors to fire departments in the area.
The credit union serves all residents in Montgomery, Miami and Greene County and several departments in these counties are receiving the donation.
This is the ninth year in a row the credit union is donating the detectors. Fire departments, including Dayton, Trotwood, Harrison Township, Butler Township, Brookville, Vandalia, Miami Valley Fire District, West Carrollton, Huber Heights, Fairborn, New Lebanon, Kettering, Troy, Tipp City, Beavercreek Township and several others are receiving the detectors.
All donations are being delivered over the next several weeks. A total of 820 CO detectors will be donated among the departments. The number of detectors donated has doubled since the program began in 2016.
The credit union has donated more than 4,700 detectors over the years. The credit union donates the CO detectors utilizing some of the funds from the credit union’s holiday skip-a-payment program.
The total amount donated in dollars for the CO detectors since the initiative began, is over $64,000.
Year after year, the credit union said it completes their holiday skip-a-pay program with their members and then orders the detectors and distributes them in March to the fire departments.
“The program just keeps growing and allows us to help more local fire departments provide CO detectors to the residents that need them,” said Shannon O’Neill, the marketing manager for the Firefighters & Company Federal Credit Union.
