OVERLAND PARK, Kans.-- Farmers Insurance Federal Credit Union’s Overland Park branch recently teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City to host a unique financial literacy experience for local youth.
On August 5, the branch welcomed 30 “Bigs” and “Littles” for Reality Check: The Game—a hands-on, interactive activity designed to teach teens real-world money management skills.
The event transformed financial education into an engaging real-world money management scenario, where participants navigated through different stages of adulthood. Along the way, they faced realistic financial obligations, unexpected expenses, varying incomes, debt management, and even retirement planning. The immersive setup allowed Littles to experience the impact of everyday financial decisions in a safe, educational environment.
The collaboration reflects a shared commitment between FIGFCU and Big Brothers Big Sisters to empower young people with the tools they need for a successful future.
“We wanted to create an experience that wasn’t just about numbers, but about showing how financial decisions shape your life,” said Darren Jones, Overland Park Branch Manager. “By making it interactive and relatable, we’re helping these teens feel more confident about managing their own money when the time comes.”
