COLUMBIA, Md.–MD|DC Credit Union Association CEO John Bratsakis and NIHFCU CEO Rick Wieczorek teamed up to fight senior scammers during a special appearance at which they looked “marvel-ous.” The dynamic duo appeared during the closing reception at the Association’s Annual Meeting & Convention, making a grand entrance as their favorite superheroes and urging credit unions to join the fight against financial exploitation of older adults who are increasingly being targeted by scammers.
“The Senior Superheroes encouraged credit unions to take action by completing training through Senior Safeguard, an online program that teaches employees how to recognize and report financial exploitation,” the association said.
The MD|DC Credit Union Association is providing the program FREE to affiliates. In late June, the Association will begin offering the training to affiliated credit unions to share with their members.
Now is the time to take action, the association said, noting seniors are losing an estimated $36 billion annually to fraud, even though just one-in-44 report it.
