ESFCU's Morton Wins Emerging Leader Award

OCEAN CITY, Md. – After several rounds of competition, Antionette Morton, accounting manager with Educational Systems FCU, was selected as the 2019 Miriam Rivera Lieb Emerging Leader Award winner. The award was presented by the MD|DC Credit Union Association at the 2019 Annual Meeting & Convention. Morton’s final presentation focused on creating greater awareness about credit unions.

The award honors the legacy of Miriam Rivera Lieb, who was a dedicated advocate and leader in the credit union movement. Mimi, as she was known to her friends and colleagues, had a passion for mentoring up and coming professionals and helped to encourage and cultivate many current credit union leaders. The award recognizes a credit union professional 40 or under who shares Lieb’s dedication to the core principles of credit unions and demonstrates the potential to be a leader.

“Congratulations to all of the finalists,” said John Bratsakis, president/CEO, MD|DC Credit Union Association. “Their passion for the credit union movement has been evident throughout the competition. They are highly engaged with their credit unions, exhibit the potential to be a leader and have fully embraced the philosophy of people helping people. Thank you to CUNA Mutual Group for sponsoring the award and CUNA for donating a conference scholarship.”

The winner was selected from four finalists who participated in three phases of the competition. During MD|DC CUA’s Annual Meeting & Convention, the finalists presented their ideas on how credit unions can better position themselves as the best financial choice for consumers. Attendees voted on the presentations and a winner was determined based on a combination of judges’ evaluations, online voting, and votes cast by conference attendees.

Morton will receive a professional development package, sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group, worth up to $5,000 and includes:

• Executive coaching sessions
• Conference scholarship donated by CUNA

• A trip to visit CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group headquarters in Madison, Wis.

Runners-up receive an executive coaching session.
