SAN DIEGO–During the Education Credit Union Council’s annual meeting, attendees brought with them children’s books as part of the ECUC Books for Kids fundraiser. At the close of the conference stacks of donated books were presented to the local children’s hospital.
The annual Books for Kids fundraiser took on a new twist this year as ECUC said it launched a partnership with Junior Achievement. Known for enriching and supporting youth of all ages in communities across the nation, Junior Achievement has been selected as the recipient of funds raised each year during the ECUC Conference, and of course presented to the Junior Achievement in the city in which the conference is held.
“We’re excited to report that our first Junior Achievement fundraiser was a great success, as our school, university and education-focused credit unions warmly opened their wallets for San Diego’s students. Collectively we raised over $2,500 through online donations and with fundraising during the conference,” said newly elected ECUC President Bill Sweeney. “Our conference host, Mission Federal Credit Union, is a longtime supporter and sponsor of the JA Mission Fed Finance Park, making this year's donation extra special for ECUC credit unions.”
In addition to the fundraising by the San Diego student ambassadors, the several ECUC member credit unions generously donated lump sum checks: Blue Ox Credit Union, Class Act Federal Credit Union, Core Federal Credit Union, Duke Federal Credit Union, Educational Systems Federal Credit Union, Main Street Credit Union and Northeast Family Federal Credit Union.
