JASPER, Ind.–Dubois-Pike FCU has awarded scholarships for local teachers to help offset the cost of classroom supplies. According to the National Center of Education Statistics, teachers spend on average $480 per year out of their own pockets for classroom needs.
To help support local teachers and in turn local students, Dubois-Pike Federal Credit Union awarded six $200 classroom scholarships for a total of $1,200 for area teachers.
Rose Nealy and Lisa Meyer of Dubois-Pike FCU surprised each of the six teachers by going to their schools to present the awards.
Dubois-Pike FCU reported it had 112 applications submitted and narrowed it down to six winners, one teacher from each school corporation in Dubois and Pike Counties. With such positive feedback the first two years, Dubois-Pike plans to make this an annual scholarship to give back to local teachers, students, and community.
