SAGINAW - Dow Credit Union presented Hidden Harvest food bank with a check for $7,700 at the nonprofit’s headquarters. In addition to the donation, representatives from DCU staffed the warehouse for much of the day.
As the sponsor of the Loons Wins program, the credit union pledged to contribute $100 to Hidden Harvest for each of the minor league team's victories during the 2023 season. This year proved to be a prolific one for the Loons, who amassed 77 wins and even advanced to the playoffs.
"I think it's great that Dow Credit Union supports the community in such a fun way," said Training Manager Heather Fritz. “It makes everyone cheer on the Loons that much more."
Overseen by the Saginaw Community Foundation, Hidden Harvest has distributed more than 40 million pounds of food through hunger relief agencies since its inception in 1994.
Dow Credit Union said it has been proud to partner with the nonprofit for over a decade. It is also one of the main sponsors of Hidden Harvest’s Celebrating Good Tastes fundraiser every Spring, for which the CU furnishes live and silent auction items. Recently, Hidden Harvest inducted Dow Credit Union’s CFO, Sanjay Ahluwalia, as a member of its board of directors.
“We are grateful to partner with Hidden Harvest and the Loons in rescuing food and distributing it to those in need,” Ahluwalia said. “Hidden Harvest has a great mission and has done an excellent job in helping reduce food waste and hunger in the tri-county region."
