ALEXANDRIA, Va.––Democracy Federal Credit Union donated $500 to the Capital Area Food Bank, which provides more than 30 million meals to people in communities across D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Over the past few months, Democracy FCU has joined hands with organizations in our communities in the fight against the effects of COVID-19.
“We have found strength in communal efforts by reaching across the aisles in attempt to support our first responders, business owners, and schools in our back yard,” the credit union said. “It is our social responsibility as a financial institution, and community partner, to support those around us for the good of all.”
According to Democracy FCU, one out of 10 residents in the metropolitan Washington region is food insecure, and nearly one-third are children.
“The Capital Area Food Bank is the anchor of the hunger relief infrastructure in our region, but they don’t stop there, they know that creating long term solutions to hunger requires more than meals,” the CU said. “It requires education, training, and opportunity. In short, it demands ideas that address the big picture. Partnering with the Capital Area Food Bank allows us to contribute to a solution to fight to end hunger.”
